'1994'

"1994" is the second in a series of posters celebrating historical events using modern imagery and designs. "1994" celebrates the Zapatistia Uprising in Chiapas, Mexico. Considered the first post-modern revolution, the rebellion, led by EZLN, won the rural state of Chiapas from the Mexican Army and established democratic rule providing equal rights for the indigenous population. The Zapatista movement remains highly charged unto today where it pursues the fight for social and economic democracy with other organisations both at home and on a global scale.

Stylistically it incoroperates the colours of the Mexican tricolour flag along with the Zapatista's trademark colour, black. The iconic image of Subcommandante Marcos, anonymous symbol, but not leader, of the EZLN, emerges from the one of the primary mexican crops; maize - all in stark contrasts and minimalist edges. The text at the bottom of the piece is one of Marcos' many famous quotes.
